Interview with Tenement Museum
The author Mary Helen Fein was interviewed on YouTube Live by New York City’s Tenement Museum. During research for her historical novel Stitching A Life, Mary Helen was inspired by the museum. Apartments from every period of immigration to the Lower East Side are fully furnished as they would have been in the 1800s and the early 1900s. Nearly indoor scene in Stitching A Life takes place in a tenement. They were homes in the evenings, and converted to workplaces during the day. Sometimes 10 or more people lived in a single 3 room apartment.
